A trust badge used to be a picture. You pasted it into your footer and hoped people believed it. The trouble is that anyone can paste the same picture, and most people know it.
The Reputfy seal works differently. It checks itself, live, every time someone looks at it. That one change is what lets it go further than your footer: next to the address bar, beside your search results, and onto the little icon in the browser tab.
Here is what each of those does, and how to switch them on.
1. The live seal on your website
Once your business holds the seal, open Seal in your Reputfy dashboard. Add the website address where the seal will appear, then copy the seal script. It is one line:
```
```
Paste it wherever you want the seal to sit: the footer, the booking page, next to your reviews widget.
Three things happen each time the page loads:
- The script asks Reputfy whether your certificate is valid today.
- It checks that the page it is sitting on is the website you registered.
- It shows "Reputfy verified", your business name and the date your seal is valid until. A click opens your certificate and your reviews.
If your seal lapses, the badge changes by itself. You never have to remember to take it down.
Why a copied seal never verifies
Say a competitor copies your snippet onto their own site. The seal still loads, but the address does not match the one on your certificate, so it reads "Not verified for this site". The same happens if someone saves an image of your seal and pastes it. A picture cannot answer the live check.
That is the whole point. A seal that can be copied is decoration. A seal that checks itself is evidence.
2. Next to the address bar
The padlock in the address bar belongs to the browser. It tells you the connection is encrypted, and no company, including us, can put its own sign there. That is a good rule, and we would not want it any other way.
What we can do is give people a seal that sits right beside it. The free Reputfy Seal Check extension for Chrome, Edge and Brave adds a small button next to the address bar. On a website with a valid Reputfy seal, it turns green with a tick. One click shows the business name, the certificate number and how long it is valid.
On a site without a seal, it stays grey. If a site shows our seal on the page but the button stays grey, something is wrong, and the extension tells the visitor how to report it.
You can point customers to the extension from your own site, your receipts or your email signature: reputfy.com/verify.html.
3. Beside your search results
The same extension also looks at search results on Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Next to any result whose website holds a valid seal, it adds a small green "Reputfy verified" tag.
That matters because most decisions start on a results page. If someone is choosing between three bakeries in the same street, the one with a verified tag beside it gets a second look before anyone clicks.
Search engines do not display other companies' badges in their results, so this works for people who have installed the extension. As more of your customers install it, more of them see you marked as verified.
Is it private?
The extension sends only website names to Reputfy, such as marlowst.example. It never sends page contents, full addresses, searches or browsing history, and it forgets each answer after ten minutes. That is spelled out in our privacy policy.
4. On your tab icon
Every website has a small icon that shows in the browser tab, in bookmarks and often in search results. You have two ways to add the seal to it.
- Live: add
data-favicon="on"to your seal script. While your seal is valid, a small green seal appears in the corner of your tab icon. If it lapses, your normal icon comes back. - Downloaded: on the Seal page, choose "Make a favicon with the seal", pick your current icon, and you get a version with the seal in the corner. Only use this while your seal is valid, and switch back if it lapses. Unlike the live version, a downloaded file cannot update itself.
5. Anyone can check, any time
Customers do not need the extension to check you. Anyone can type your website or certificate number at Check a seal and see, straight from our records, who the seal belongs to and whether it is valid today.
Developers and AI assistants can ask the same question. The check is an open web address, and assistants connected to Reputfy can use it too, which we explain in connecting Reputfy to Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants.
A ten-minute setup checklist
- Open Seal in your dashboard and confirm your seal is issued.
- Add your website address and save it.
- Copy the seal script, and tick the tab icon option if you want it.
- Paste the script into your site's footer or booking page.
- Check it at reputfy.com/verify.html.
- Add a line to your receipts or email signature: "Our reviews are sealed by Reputfy. Check us at reputfy.com/verify.html."
What the seal does not claim
The seal proves your reviews have not been edited since they were collected, and that you meet six published criteria for collecting them honestly. It does not prove every review is fair, and it does not promise anything about your food, your fees or your service. We say that plainly, because a trust mark that overclaims stops being trusted.
